Lectures on the Second Coming #1 – 1 Thessalonians 1

For many hundreds of years the doctrine of the second coming of Christ lay virtually unknown in the pages of scripture. Centuries where the Bible was refused to the common man, and decades of unholy union between church and state resulted in widespread ignorance of the Church’s true hope: the personal return of Christ.

The Spirit of God began a special work in the early 1800’s to recover the truth of the second coming of Christ in all of its beauty and clarity. Many human instruments were used in this work, but one man especially: an Irishman by the name of John Nelson Darby. Beginning in the late 1820’s the mid-night cry “Behold the bridegroom cometh” began to be sounded out across the continent of Europe, and from there it spread around the world. Darby made seven trips to North America, spreading the enlightening truth of the second coming, as well as many other important doctrines. On one of these trips, Darby gave a series of lectures on the second coming of Christ in Toronto Canada probably around the year 1860. Through Darby’s preaching and teaching in North America, a tremendous movement began which pointed millions of Christian toward their true hope: waiting for God’s Son from heaven.
